Why we’re proud to carry quality hardwood flooring from Kentwood
When it comes to choosing hardwood flooring for your home or office, finding hardwood that looks great is only part of the equation. You also want a hardwood floor that is built to last, designed to preserve the air quality of your space and manufactured in a sustainable manner. And of course, your hardwood should look unequivocally stunning.

That’s why we’re proud to carry Kentwood Hardwood Flooring.

Spectacular hardwood flooring

When Kentwood opened its doors in 2003, its founders set an incredibly high standard for quality. Kentwood specializes in hardwood floors that celebrate the infinite variety and natural beauty of real wood, make a bold design statement and are manufactured to last a lifetime.

The company’s collection of hardwood flooring includes a dizzying array of colours, species, designs and textures that evoke the awe-inspiring landscapes of Kentwood’s West Coast home. From its connoisseur-level Couture Collection to its more budget-conscious Elements line, Kentwood Hardwood Flooring provides an elegant look to any space.

Environmentally friendly wood flooring

While Kentwood sets an impeccable standard for quality, it’s not willing to sacrifice environmental stewardship to get there.

Kentwood Hardwood Flooring lives by a wide-ranging corporate environmental program that touches every aspect of product development and manufacture. From responsible forestry and focusing on flooring that’s built to last a lifetime, to supporting organizations that promote responsible land use and encouraging its customers to adopt environmentally friendly practices, Kentwood does everything it can to minimize its environmental impact.

Hardwood flooring that won’t harm air quality

We’ve all heard about how off-gassing from new flooring and other products can affect the indoor air quality of a home. Not so when it comes to Kentwood Hardwood Flooring.

In its commitment to preserving indoor air quality and formaldehyde emissions, Kentwood goes far beyond current regulations. In fact, it tests all of its engineered flooring against the air quality standard that’s widely considered the strictest in the world: California’s CA Section 01350. LEED considers this standard to be the best indicator of a floor’s ability to contribute to high indoor air quality.

Six tips for incorporating an area rug into your space

Area rugs can be both a visual and financial investment. They allow you to make a bold statement in any room, add a cosy, lived-in feeling that reflects your personality and design esthetic.

Thinking about selling your home? The right area rug in the right location can vastly improve the showing value of your home.

Here are six ways an area rug can add warmth and colour to your home:

  1. An area rug can add warmth and intimacy to a large, shapeless room – such as a basement space.
  2. Anchor your living space by grouping furniture around an area rug to create a cosy hangout space.
  3. Strategically place a rug beneath your dining room table and chairs to define the eating area without confining it.
  4. Got a small space? Rugs with large patterns will make a large room cozy, but will overwhelm your small room. Go for solid colours or a minimal pattern.
  5. When placing your rug, make sure enough floor surrounds it so it doesn’t overpower the space. You want comfort, coziness and a stylish floor.
  6. If possible, most designers suggest starting with your area rug and creating your space around it.

All about area rugs – from Comox Valley Floors

There’s beauty in hardwood, laminate and tile flooring. The streamlined look of unadorned flooring, however, can feel a bit cold once those grey West Coast fall days set in.

The solution? Area rugs. An area rug can make a bold statement in any room and add a cosy, lived-in feeling that reflects your personality and design esthetic.

How to choose the right area rug for your space

Picking an area rug can be daunting given the number of options out there. (Heck, we just received a shipment 150 new area rugs at our Comox Valley warehouse showroom!) Almost any space can accommodate an area rug, but there’s a lot to consider.

To keep your rug-shopping experience on the positive side, consider the following:

  • What kind of lifestyle do you lead?

Are you an empty nester or a busy parent chasing muddy kids and pets around? When choosing an area rug, it’s important to address practicality.

  • What’s your style?

Choose an area rug that compliments the style of your space. While it’s not necessary to match everything in the room, the tone and texture of your rug should work with your furnishings.

  • Where will the area rug be and what’s its purpose?

The use of your space determines the purpose of your rug. Rugs can warm up, define or add visual interest to a bare floor. They also serve as comfortable spaces for children to play.

  • What feels best under your feet?

If you prefer softness, then natural fibres such as wool and cotton are for you. If you prefer a lush feeling under feet, synthetic fibres will give you what you’re looking for.

Organic rugs such as jute, hemp and sisal are surprisingly soft, but they lack the physical warmth of a woven rug. It really comes down to how you want your rug to feel beneath your feet.

  • How easily can it be cleaned?

While regular vacuuming and spot cleaning keep your carpets tidy, it’s important to also schedule regular rug cleanings to maintain a healthy home environment.

Medium- to high-pile area rugs should be professionally cleaned once a year to remove allergens, dust and accumulated dirt that isn’t easily removed by vacuum.

Low-pile and flat-weave carpets provide fewer hiding spaces for grime and are easier to spot clean, but they need a twice-yearly old-fashioned rug beating to remove all the accumulated dust.

  • Is your rug timeless and how much will it cost?

Spending more on a high-quality area rug is worth it in the long run, rather than buying mediocre-quality carpets that need frequent replacing. But, if you like to change things up seasonally, less-expensive area rugs will work for your needs.

Now that we’ve got you thinking about area rugs, check out six tips for incorporating an area rug into your space.
